QUALICOAT UK & Ireland Welcomes Over 50 Delegates to Laboratory Training Event
QUALICOAT UK & Ireland recently hosted over 50 laboratory technicians at its annual member training event; reinforcing the organisation’s commitment to architectural aluminium coating excellence.
Held over two days in early June at Bragborough Hall Business Centre in Daventry, the event directly supports the global QUALICOAT Specification which mandates that laboratory technicians at all licensed coating facilities must attend a training session at least every two years.
The hands-on event targeted both new and experienced technicians responsible for vital coating and pre-treatment quality control processes.
To facilitate practical learning, a temporary laboratory was constructed at the venue, fully equipped with specialist equipment and technical expertise supplied by industry partners Q-Lab, Industrial Physics, Wagner and Almetron.
Day one focused on basic technician training, offering individuals who had not previously attended a training day essential experience with product testing using recommended equipment and record keeping. The second day shifted focus to experienced laboratory technicians, concentrating on more advanced testing techniques and complex management issues.
Alongside practical sessions, delegates gained insights from a series of technical seminars led by industry experts, including Lee Hathaway (AkzoNobel Powder Coating), Oliver Bögler and Dieter Meinhard (IFO Institute for Surface Technology) and Jan Lukaszweski (ALFED).
Feedback from delegates has been very positive, with Tristan Pope, Technical and Quality Manager for Vertik-Al, noting that the event “…was a valuable opportunity to network with a group of people who face similar challenges and to learn from industry experts.”
Chair of QUALICOAT UK & Ireland, Chris Mansfield, comments:
“Maintaining the globally recognised QUALICOAT certification requires dedication and accuracy. By training technicians to correctly perform rigorous tests, such as adhesion, gloss, colour uniformity and resistance to corrosion or weathering, ensures deviations or any potential issues are caught early. This continuous professional development minimises human error, guarantees consistent, reproducible results and prevents substandard products ever reaching the market. The role of well-trained lab personnel is fundamental to upholding the QUALICOAT standard.”
