QUALICOAT Meet at the National Metalforming Centre
Another good turnout for the second members meeting of the year, held at the National Metalforming Centre in West Bromwich. The members present welcomed guests from the Epwin Group and Kestrel Aluminium Systems who are interested in joining the association and coating to the QUALICOAT standard.
Feedback from members confirmed that the QUALICOAT standard is gaining recognition in the UK with approximately half of all orders now going though the applicator members being specified QUALICOAT. In Ireland, members were seeing almost all powder coating being specified to the QUALICOAT standard.
Pre-anodising was also reported to be gaining a rapid uptake especially on large projects. The QUALICOAT working group is working with test house IFO to determine the best testing procedure. It was noted that a further three applicators in the UK were looking at installing anodising plants to offer this pretreatment system. Facade engineers are known to be specifying the pretreatment for upcoming major projects.
On membership, a further two major powder coat applicators were close to being given their licences to coat to the QUALICOAT standard, these will be announced shortly. The secretary confirmed that interest had also been expressed by further companies who were enquiring after obtaining licences for application.
The next two day training course for applicator members takes place in September at applicator member, Kingspan premises. The course covers the most up to date QUALICOAT specification and testing regime for applicator members. The regular update training forms part of the requirements for obtaining and holding an applicator licence.
